Sony Xperia Z4 vs Sony Xperia Z3: How they differ

Sony is expected to launch their new flagship phone, Xperia Z4, on Mobile World Congress in March 2015. A number of sources predict that Sony may launch single/dual SIM variants of the model at the same time with almost similar features and specifications. We can bring more updates on the expected launch very soon.

It will be interesting to know if Sony offers something new with the device. How Xperia Z4 differs from the previous model, Xperia Z3 ?


Both devices share the screen size of 5.2 inches. Sony Xperia Z4 offers display resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and 565 ppi. It was 1920 x 1080 pixels and 424 ppi respectively on Z3. So we can enjoy more stunning visuals or get better viewing experience on Xperia Z4.

OS and Hardware

Sony Xperia Z3 runs Android 4.4 KitKat with upgrade option to 5.0 Lollipop but Xperia Z4 is pre-loaded with Lollipop from the factory itself.

Xperia Z4 is faster than the previous version. It is equipped with Snapdragon 810 Octa core processor that runs in the combination speeds of 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 and 2 GHz Cortex-A57. In short, Z4 replaces 2.5 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 801 what we seen in Xperia Z3.

RAM and Memory

Sony improved RAM and storage size with Xperia Z4. The last model came with 3 GB RAM, 16/32 GB storage size and memory card support for up to 128 GB. The memory card capacity remains same on Z4 too, but RAM and memory sizes are increased. We will get 4 GB RAM and 32/64 GB onboard storages on upcoming Xperia Z4 model.


Sony keeps Z3’s same rear camera on Z4 too. But secondary camera is a little bit different. It replaces old 2.2 MP front facing camera with 5 MP on Xperia Z4.


Xperia Z3 is currently available for $629 from Sony’s online shop. Xperia Z4 will be available shortly after the launch in March, with a price tag of $670.
